Along with carrying on a humanity mission, Yayasan Sayap Ibu also carries the national mission to help improve the social welfare in Indonesia. To run this mission, Yayasan Sayap Ibu in cooperation with the Government to provide services such as adoption service, custody rights or foster parenting.

Yayasan Sayap Ibu currently is a member of DNIKS (Indonesian Nasional Board of Social Welfare). Two of our branches in Bintaro Jakarta and Jogjakarta are also a member of BKKKS (Nasional Coordination Board of Sosial Welfare Activities).

Our vision and mission:

  • Vision
A child is a gift ,who is entitled to be cared and protected from when they are in the womb and after being borned
  • Mission
Provide maximum support efforts in holistic, integrated and continuous caring and protection until the child has grown up

Yayasan Sayap Ibu is founded in 1955 by Mrs. Hj. Sulistina Sutomo, Mr. Tomo's wife who is at that time the minister of social affairs. The intention to build a foster home came from the condition where there are a lot of working women in the local traditional market Mayestik, who brought along their small children to work. Mrs. Sutomo is very concerned about the condition of these children and later on proposes the idea to establish Yayasan Sayap Ibu.

At first Yayasan Sayap Ibu is more functional as a day care services for the children in the market. This foundation is then trusted under the supervision of the BKKKS (National Coordination Board of Social Welfare Activities). Under the new management, Mrs. Nasution takes on the role as the advisor meanwhile the head position is filled by Mrs. Ciptaningsih Utaryo. On 1968, Yayasan Sayap Ibu developed into two branches, in Jogjakarta and Central Jakarta, where both are still under the supervision from the main branch.

The journey of Yayasan Sayap Ibu in fulfilling its mission wasn’t easy. This foundation had to close down for a while in 1968 due to financial problems. However, because of some great efforts by some of the coordinating members, especially Mrs.Nasution, Yayasan Sayap Ibu is then reopened again and has been through good improvement since.

In executing its daily operation, Yayasan Sayap Ibu needed some substantial financial support. The major contribution of funding is collected from the society’s donation. In addition, YSI also received some routine subsidies from:
- Government (Social and Welfare Department)
- Local Government
- Dharmais Foundation
- Private Companies

Along with financial support, Yayasan Sayap Ibu also received some spontaneous donations from the society in the form of materials, food and goods.
All of the donations that we received are used for the daily operation the foundation. The largest funding is used for child care, health care (including operation procedures) and operational fee of nurses and staff.
Yayasan Sayap Ibu gives out the details of our performances and cash flow report to the supervisors of Yayasan Sayap Ibu, Government and the society.
